Well it was somewhat disheartening to get as far as the back of the cockpit stripping the old varnish, finding more rot and rust, infact under the now familiar brass corner protectors, as all the other ones have revealed under this was a bodge of screws and rubber sealant attempting to keep the swelling wood flush with the ends of the cabinside, the rust being the main issue forcing the wood away from the steel lip.
Unfortunately all the fixings were stuck fast, so really there was no option but to use brut force and after a few hefty kicks its out !, still intact enough to use as a template.
Have quickly roughed out a new piece of timber, fitted first time !
Now for the epoxy and sealants, went in a treat , good and solid and all the holes plugged.
Now back to the sanding and stripping.
Everything here was mars bar brown with coloured varnish, it had been on at least 20 yrs and had been overcoated a few to many times making it very dead and just brown.
Now for the varnish.
